Mechanical Design Engineer (Major Design & Build Projects)

About Your New Job as Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Design and develop mechanical building services solutions from concept to installation.
  • Produce mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Develop coordinated drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and BIM processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, and project meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, BS EN Standards, and CIBSE guidance.
  • Support value engineering and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and project handover.
  • Undertake site visits as required to support project delivery.

What Skills You Need as Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer, or Product Design role.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health systems.
  • Knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulations, and CIBSE guidance.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and engineering calculation software.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and digital project collaboration tools.

Desirable Qualities

  • Chartered status or working towards membership with CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent.
  • Experience with BIM workflows and coordinated design environments.
  • Familiarity with BIM360, Dalux, 4Projects, Morta, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of BREEAM, LEED, or WELL sustainability frameworks.
  • Experience delivering commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, or data center projects.
  • Understanding of modular and off-site construction methodologies.
