Mechanical Design Engineer

Your Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy based in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of technically challenging projects while developing your career within a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering environment.
Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary design teams, you will contribute to projects from concept through to completion, delivering innovative, sustainable and high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of sectors.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of mechanical building services solutions across a varied portfolio of projects. You will work closely with clients, architects, structural engineers and contractors to ensure projects are delivered to the highest technical standards, on time and within budget.
This role offers excellent exposure to all stages of the design process, with opportunities to develop your technical expertise while working on prestigious developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical building services systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic water services and public health systems.
- Produce mechanical calculations, specifications and technical reports.
- Prepare design drawings and coordinate BIM models using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver coordinated engineering solutions.
- Attend client meetings, design reviews, technical workshops and site visits.
- Carry out site inspections and surveys, providing technical support during construction and commissioning.
- Ensure all designs comply with current Building Regulations, British Standards, CIBSE guidance and health and safety legislation.
- Develop sustainable and energy-efficient building services solutions, supporting low-carbon and net-zero design strategies.
- Assist with project planning, programme management and technical coordination.
- Maintain high standards of technical quality and client service throughout project delivery.

About You
We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and takes pride in delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

You will have:
- A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
- A solid understanding of HVAC, public health and mechanical building services design principles.
- Experience using industry-standard software such as Hevacomp, IES VE, Revit and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of current Building Regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and project teams.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
Desirable
- Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with CIBSE or IMechE.
- Experience delivering projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, healthcare or industrial.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and digital engineering workflows.
- Experience with low-carbon technologies, renewable energy systems and sustainable building design.
