Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to work on complex engineering projects that make a real impact?

We're partnering with an established engineering business that designs and delivers bespoke process systems for customers across the water, energy and industrial sectors. With projects spanning the UK and internationally, this is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team where you'll work on technically challenging projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.

This role would suit someone who enjoys designing engineered systems, solving technical challenges and working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the full project lifecycle.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality engineering designs and supporting projects from tender stage through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer include:

  • Producing 2D and 3D engineering designs using AutoCAD and 3D CAD, e.g., Solidworks, Inventor, etc.
  • Creating General Arrangement drawings, layouts, isometric drawings, manufacturing drawings, and project documentation.
  • Interpreting customer specifications and translating them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Supporting engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Reviewing engineering documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout project delivery.
  • Supporting document control processes and maintaining accurate engineering records.
  • Reviewing supplier documentation and attending equipment inspections where required.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant engineering standards and quality procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with Mechanical, Electrical, and Project Engineers to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
