Mechanical Design Engineer

The Opportunity
An established UK engineering manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team in the West Midlands. The business designs and manufactures specialist vehicle-mounted equipment used across infrastructure, waste management and industrial sectors. With a long-standing reputation for engineering excellence, the company offers the opportunity to work on bespoke mechanical products from concept through to manufacture and installation. This role would suit an engineer who enjoys working on technically challenging projects and wants to see their designs progress into real-world products.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
- Design mechanical components, assemblies and fabricated structures.
- Support product development activities from concept through to production.
- Carry out engineering calculations and design validation.
- Liaise with manufacturing, production and supply chain teams.
- Support continuous improvement and product enhancement initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry and safety standards.

Requirements
- Degree or HNC/HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience within a mechanical design environment.
- Ability to create detailed engineering drawings and BOMs.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication, welding and machined components.
- Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Creo.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

- Experience designing heavy machinery
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with design for manufacture principles.
