Our client is a well-established engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of specialist bar, cable and welded systems for structural and engineering applications. Due to continued development, they are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their existing engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with a strong design and engineering background to take responsibility for mechanical design, calculations and technical documentation, while working closely with engineering, project, quality and site teams.
Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview
- Produce and review mechanical designs and technical drawings for assemblies used within structural and engineering applications.
- Create, modify and review 3D CAD models, assemblies and technical drawings using a CAD platform, ideally SolidWorks or Solid Edge.
- Carry out fundamental engineering calculations covering stresses, shear, bending, bearing and combined loading.
- Assess load paths and identify critical sections and stress areas to ensure designs meet strength requirements and relevant client specifications.
- Support the Site Services team with on-site installation and tensioning activities associated with specialist bar systems.
- Prepare technical documentation packages for customers, agents, distributors and auditors, including test reports, compliance statements, warranty documentation and certificates of origin.
- Work closely with engineering, project, quality and site teams to establish testing protocols, cable specifications and welding requirements.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements
- Engineering bachelor's degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with an HND/HNC in Engineering and relevant industry experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrable experience using 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
- Ability to produce, read and modify 3D models, assemblies and detailed engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering calculations
- Practical engineering approach with the ability and willingness to work on site when required, supporting installation and tensioning activities.
- Knowledge of weld design and experience coordinating welding activities would be advantageous.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Remuneration
- Salary £35,000 – £38,000 circa – depending on experience
- Monday to Friday – 35 hour working week
- Holiday allowance and pension
