Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Lichfield, Staffordshire

Salary: 40,000 – 47,000 DOE

Hours: Monday to Friday, Full–Time

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team specialising in material handling solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys designing innovative mechanical systems and seeing projects progress from concept through to manufacture.

Working within a collaborative environment, you will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D designs for a range of bespoke material handling equipment and systems, supporting projects across multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and material handling equipment using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models.
  • Generate engineering documentation, including BOMs and technical specifications.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, project and engineering teams to ensure designs meet customer and operational requirements.
  • Review and improve existing products and systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and best practices.
  • Support projects through the full design lifecycle, from concept through to production.

About You

  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor for both 2D and 3D design.
  • Experience designing fabricated steelwork, conveyors, material handling equipment or similar industrial machinery would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Excellent problem–solving and communication skills.
  • Self–motivated and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
