Job Description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer - Injection Moulding, you will join our Coventry team to support our activities within the automotive engineering sector.

You will play a key role in the design and development of injection moulded plastic components for automotive applications. Working within a fast-paced product development environment, you will be responsible for producing robust 3D models and detailed engineering drawings, ensuring designs meet manufacturing, quality, and performance requirements.

Location: Coventry
On Site: Hybrid (3 days per week)
Clearance: SC clearable
Experience Level: Mid - Level (3+ years of experience)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and develop 3D models and assemblies using CATIA V6
  • Design injection moulded plastic components in accordance with automotive standards and manufacturing requirements
  • Produce detailed 2D engineering drawings to a high standard and in line with CAD OEM standards
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure accurate component definition and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to resolve design challenges
  • Participate in design reviews and support component release activities throughout the product lifecycle

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience using CATIA V6 within an automotive engineering environment
  • Strong experience in the 3D modelling and design of injection moulded plastic components
  • Excellent understanding of injection moulding design principles, including:
    • Rib thickness
    • Draft angles
    • Tooling direction
    • Split lines
    • Compression limiters
  • Excellent GD&T knowledge and application
  • Ability to produce high-quality 2D engineering drawings in line with CAD OEM standards
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Demonstrable experience designing plastic components within the automotive sector
  • Experience supporting products through concept, design, and release phases

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of tooling design and injection moulding manufacturing processes
  • Experience with 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)
  • Understanding of product validation and prototype development
  • Experience working within cross-functional product development teams
