Mechanical Design Engineer
£50-52/hr Outside IR35
3-Month initial contract
Bristol, UK (Hybrid)
We're working with a Bristol-based engineering team on a fast-moving EV programme and are looking for a Battery Pack Design Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design work packages from concept through to delivery.
This is not a CAD-only role. You'll be trusted to own solutions, interpret requirements, manage interfaces and work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality designs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own and lead delivery of mechanical battery pack design work packages
- Gather, interpret and break down requirements before moving into detailed design
- Develop high-quality CATIA models and manufacturing drawings
- Work closely with CAE, electrical, thermal and other engineering teams
- Manage technical interfaces, risks, timing and design changes throughout delivery
- Apply strong GD&T and tolerancing principles to released designs
- Take designs from concept through to manufacturing/release

What We're Looking For
- Strong mechanical design/CAD experience, ideally within battery packs, EV, automotive or a comparable engineering environment
- Excellent CATIA skills; 3DEXPERIENCE / 3DX experience is a bonus
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerancing
- Experience producing designs suitable for manufacture and release
- Proven ability to own a technical solution or work package end-to-end
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work across multidisciplinary teams
- A proactive, delivery-focused mindset, someone who can make decisions rather than simply model to instruction

Battery-pack experience is highly desirable, but strong transferable mechanical design experience from automotive, aerospace, composites or similar environments will also be considered.
