Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Crawley

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000

Our client is a well-established manufacturer of high-quality, precision-engineered products. Due to continued growth and increasing demand, they are expanding their design team.

The Role

You will work closely with the engineering team to develop new products and improve existing ones. This is a varied and technically interesting position with full ownership of the design process. You will handle a good mix of fast-paced, quick-turnaround bespoke projects and longer-term standard product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 3D CAD modelling and 2D technical drawing creation
  • Design of mechanical assemblies with moving parts and mechanisms
  • Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM), DFA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Generating costings
  • BOM creation and configuration management
  • First article inspection and quality review
  • Liaising with manufacturing, purchasing, and other internal teams

Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ 3D CAD experience (Inventor or SolidWorks preferred)
  • Strong understanding of tolerances and their practical application
  • Experience designing with different materials and finishes
  • Proven ability to design mechanical assemblies with moving parts/mechanisms
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
