Location: Didcot (on-site)

Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 + Share Options

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to play a key role in bringing cutting-edge technology from prototype to production?

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced, high-performance laser systems used in manufacturing, energy, and defence applications. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing deep-tech organisation at an exciting stage of its journey, helping to transform proven laboratory technology into robust, manufacturable products deployed around the world.

The Opportunity

As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of the mechanical design and development of next-generation systems, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams. You will be responsible for critical design decisions, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost while helping to shape the future direction of the product portfolio.

This is a hands-on leadership role offering significant technical influence, the opportunity to mentor engineers, and the chance to work directly with senior leadership on product strategy and development.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
