Mechanical Design Manager

We are seeking an experienced and driven Mechanical Design Manager to lead ASEE Group’s mechanical engineering function. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing mechanical design, project delivery, and engineering standards across all mechanical systems and installations. The Mechanical Engineer Manager will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and ensure all projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team, providing direction, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Oversee mechanical design, calculations, and specifications to ensure compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage resource allocation, workload planning, and team development to meet project deadlines.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and site teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, designs, and technical documents.
  • Monitor and drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards.
  • Provide technical expertise in resolving engineering challenges during design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and external stakeholders, acting as the senior mechanical engineering representative.
  • Support bid and tender processes with technical input, cost estimation, and risk assessment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Chartered Engineer status desirable).
  • Proven experience in a senior mechanical engineering role, ideally within construction, M&E, or infrastructure.
  • Strong track record of leading engineering teams and delivering large-scale mechanical projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Experience in design, project management, and mechanical systems installation.
  • Familiarity with CAD, BIM, and mechanical design software.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness within engineering project delivery.
  • Ability to work under pressure while ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained.
  • Must already have unrestricted legal authorisation to work in the UK. Valid evidence of right to work will be required.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
