Norwich: On site

Full-time, Permanent

Salary: A GBP 30k to A GBP 48k per year + Benefits

Schedule: Monday to Friday 37.5 Hours per week. With half day Fridays.

PPI Engineering Ltd design and manufacture large bespoke HV motors and generators predominantly for the power industry. Operating in over 50 countries we supply innovative and reliable engineering solutions to our customers.

Currently we are looking to recruit a driven design engineer to join our dynamic CAD department, responsible for the integration of mechanical and electrical design solutions, into feasible products for manufacture.

Job Overview

  • Work with mechanical and electrical engineers to understand their requirements and refine your design into a bespoke design solution ready for production. This could be for complete machines or individual components. From brand new concept designs for high end application or reverse engineering critical parts to keep an obsolete machine running.

  • Liaising with production to see projects through the manufacture and to customer delivery adopting a hands-on approach though out the project

  • Work with our in-house manufacturing facilities to improve production methods with custom tooling.

  • Through our sister companies the chance to get involved in variety of other industries including Steel production, Farm machinery, Earth moving equipment and mining sector to name but a few. (API engineering, API Capacitors)

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Production of accurate manufacturing drawings.
  • Production of full assembly drawings and parts lists from manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks PDM
  • Modifications and revision of design drawings.
  • Ability to understand engineering materials, properties and manufacturing processes of these materials.
  • Aid production with troubleshooting and design improvements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of HND in mechanical engineering or related subjects.
  • Experience in drawing office methods and practices combined with good factory floor knowledge of machining and assembly processes.
  • Good all-round knowledge of 2D/3D CAD systems as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with SolidWorks / SolidWorks PDM or similar CAD software.
  • Ability to work as part of a strong team, as well as making informed decisions when working alone at site, either in the UK or abroad.
  • Certifications of any training, in house or otherwise, would be advantageous.
  • Full driving license and current passport would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience working with HV rotating machinery.
  • UK national.
