Role Summary

We're looking for an accurate, manufacturing-minded Mechanical Draftsperson to join an established Australian manufacturing business, working fully remotely. This is a great opportunity to step into a growing, stable business where your drawings go straight from your desk to the factory floor.

This role manages the full drafting lifecycle for an established Australian manufacturer, from developing 3D models based on concepts and engineering instructions to producing fabrication-ready part and assembly drawings. Day-to-day work focuses on sheet-metal detailing (materials, cuts, folds, bends, welds, tolerances, finishes), building exploded assemblies and BOMs, and updating drawings as products evolve. You’ll collaborate closely with management, engineers, suppliers, and manufacturers, ensuring dimensional accuracy and manufacturability before release. Over time, you’ll help standardize drafting practices and grow into a long-term technical role within the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed manufacturing, part and assembly drawings that are accurate and ready for fabrication
  • Develop 3D models from product concepts, sketches, samples, mark-ups and engineering instructions
  • Produce sheet-metal fabrication drawings covering material specifications and thicknesses, cut, fold and bend details, hole, slot and fixing locations, weld details, dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes and coating requirements
  • Create exploded assembly drawings, bills of materials, and installation and product-application drawings
  • Revise existing drawings following product or manufacturing changes, and maintain drawing numbers, revision histories and document registers
  • Check drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness and manufacturability before release
  • Liaise with management, engineers, suppliers and manufacturers, and incorporate feedback from prototypes, production trials and site installations
  • Help standardize drawing templates, title blocks, symbols and drafting practices, and keep an organized library of models, drawings and technical documents
  • Produce rendered product views and technical illustrations for catalogues and installation guides where required

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • A diploma or degree in mechanical drafting, mechanical or industrial engineering, industrial design or a related discipline, though strong drawing experience can outweigh formal qualifications
  • High proficiency with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or an equivalent 3D mechanical design package, plus AutoCAD or equivalent 2D drafting software, with strong sheet-metal modelling and flat-pattern development skills
  • A sound understanding of manufacturing processes, with strong dimensional checking and drawing quality control skills and an eye for spotting assembly problems early
  • Experience with PDM, PLM or other drawing-control systems is a plus
  • Experience detailing light-gauge, fabricated steel products used in building services (such as supports, brackets or mounting systems), and familiarity with Australian drawing conventions and standards, highly regarded
  • Accurate, organized and consistent with file and revision control, comfortable asking questions when design information is incomplete, and able to work independently from written instructions, sketches and marked-up drawings
