Location: Mendip Vehicle Maintenance Facilities (Merehead & Whatley)
Salary: £47,147 per annum + excellent benefits

We're looking for a skilled Mechanical & Electrical Fitter to join our engineering team at our Mendip Vehicle Maintenance Facilities, maintaining and repairing our fleet of Class 59 and Class 66 locomotives.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading rail freight operators at a time of transformation and growth. Every locomotive you maintain plays a vital role in moving essential materials across the country, supporting industry, reducing road congestion and helping deliver a more sustainable future.
What you'll be doing
- Servicing, maintaining, fault-finding and repairing locomotives
- Working to approved maintenance plans and engineering standards
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Completing maintenance and repair documentation accurately
- Contributing to a safe, clean and effective depot environment
- Supporting team performance and operational reliability

What we're looking for
You'll be a safety-focused engineer with experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance, ideally within rail, heavy industry or a similar engineering environment.
Essential requirements:
- Apprentice trained or time-served engineer
- Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
- Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience
- Strong commitment to safe working practices
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office
- Flexible approach to working a 24/7 shift roster
Desirable:
- Rolling stock or rail maintenance experience
