Mechanical Engineer | Workshop-Based Role - Croydon
Hands-on. Analytical. Customer-facing. Problem solver. If that sounds like you, this engineering team wants you in their workshop.
They’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who loves real engineering — fault investigations, overhaul prep, BoM checks, tooling design, method statements, technical reports, and everything in between. This is a role where your engineering judgement genuinely matters and your work directly improves product reliability, customer satisfaction, and business performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading fault and warranty investigations — from diagnosis through to customer communication and final reporting.
- Producing clear, accurate technical documentation: method statements, overhaul instructions, test procedures, FAIs, concessions, and engineering change requests.
- Supporting overhaul projects with hands-on engineering input and technical problem solving.
- Reviewing BoMs, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Working closely with Sales, Projects, Production, Purchasing, Operations, Quality, and the Shop Floor.
- Representing the business in customer technical meetings and on-site support.
- Designing tooling, analysing materials, and contributing to product improvements and cost-saving initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
