Job title: Mechanical Engineer / Senior Engineer (Mechanical, Gas & Pipeline)
Location: Spadeadam, Cumbria

The Opportunity

Very few engineers get to generate evidence rather than apply it. A major hazards research and testing site on the Cumbria/Northumberland border, is one of few places that does. Demand for answers on hydrogen safety, high-pressure gas systems and explosion risk is growing, and the team is expanding.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Design, build and operate unique experimental facilities and full-scale test rigs for questions never answered at this scale before.
  • Generate evidence that shapes engineering standards and major investment decisions across energy and industrial sectors.
  • Work the full project lifecycle, from design through construction, commissioning and live testing.
  • Take on real technical ownership early, with senior engineers leading complex programmes.
  • Contribute to emerging fields including hydrogen safety and battery storage.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What Success Looks Like

  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical, gas, pipeline or chemical engineering, with curiosity to apply them where no textbook has the answer yet.
  • Comfortable hands-on and on-site, not a desk-bound role.
  • Motivated by this work specifically, not just the next engineering job.
  • Sound judgement and a genuine safety-first mindset.
  • For Senior Engineer applicants, chartership or a clear path to it.

What Is on Offer

  • Career development few employers can match, with structured support toward chartership.
  • Genuinely novel project work, no two projects the same.
  • Progression across Engineer and Senior Engineer grades.
  • Practical relocation support for the right candidate.
  • An engineering career built on evidence nobody else has generated.
