Mechanical Engineer

Cardiff (Hybrid) Permanent

Role Overview

An established leader in technology is looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing design engineering team during a busy period of product expansion. Working within the Research and Development team, you'll contribute to new product development projects, working closely with internal and external teams to support design and test reviews, technical analysis, and supplier communication. You'll also help shape the innovation pipeline, contributing ideas that push the category forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design intent and integrity of products throughout the full design life cycle
  • Contribute to mechanical and industrial design work across existing and upcoming projects
  • Use CAD tools such as SolidWorks to produce 3D CAD designs following best engineering drawing practices, ready for manufacturing
  • Work with contract manufacturing teams to review and edit designs as necessary
  • Help select appropriate assembly methods and sequencing when creating 3D designs
  • Work with the hardware engineering team to help ensure projects meet deadlines and are delivered to a high standard
  • Support project engineers with thermal simulations by assisting with drawings
  • Take part in occasional trips to contract manufacturer premises overseas

Experience

  • 3+ years' experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of consumer electronics or related products and design engineering principles
  • Some product design experience, ideally spanning concept creation through to production
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems in a product design context
  • Portfolio and/or examples of previous design work

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of Product Data Management software (e.g. SolidWorks PDM, CATIA ENOVIA)
  • Proficiency with FEA/CFD
  • 3D printing knowledge

Qualifications

  • BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
