Mechanical Engineer - Test Bay - Assembly
Blackburn / Darwen
Circa £40’000 + Annual Bonus

Do you enjoy assembling machinery from engineering drawings, solving technical problems and seeing your work make a real difference?
I am searching for a practical, hands on Mechanical Engineer to lead the Test Bay alongside assembly build. This is an opportunity to work on bespoke industrial equipment, building, modifying and testing customer solutions before they are delivered into the field.
It is ideal for someone who enjoys mechanical assembly, fault finding and improving equipment. You will work closely with Design Engineers, Assembly Team, Sales and Customers to prove concepts, solve problems and help develop engineering solutions.
Giving you the chance to combine practical engineering with technical problem solving and customer interaction.
What you will be doing
- Assemble industrial equipment from engineering drawings and build specifications.
- Prepare equipment for customer trials within the Test Bay.
- Operate, monitor and evaluate equipment during testing.
- Identify mechanical, (some electrical) and process issues, recommending improvements where required.
- Work alongside the Design team to refine products and improve performance.
- Strip down, clean and rebuild equipment between test programmes.
- Produce clear technical reports and communicate findings to customers and internal teams.
- Welcome customers into the Test Bay, demonstrating equipment and discussing test results.
- Review material data sheets (SDS) and ensure materials are handled and stored correctly.
- Maintain Test Bay equipment, tooling and work areas to a high standard.
- Drive continuous improvements in equipment, testing methods and workshop practices.
- Operate forklift trucks where required (training can be provided if necessary).

You will have:
- Strong mechanical assembly skills and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience building, modifying or commissioning industrial machinery.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
- Good working knowledge of mechanical systems, with an understanding of pneumatic and electrical components.
- Confidence communicating with customers and colleagues at all levels.
- A practical approach and willingness to get involved in every stage of a project.
- Experience producing technical reports or documenting engineering activities.
- HNC/HND, Mechanical degree or equivalent engineering experience.
