Mechanical Engineer

Our client, a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of major water and wastewater treatment projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing project team delivering complex Design & Build schemes from concept through to construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, specification, procurement, and delivery of mechanical systems for critical water infrastructure projects.

The Role

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of mechanical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle. You will contribute to the design and specification of treatment plant equipment, support procurement activities, provide construction support, and assist during commissioning and handover phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and review mechanical designs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and technical specifications.
  • Specify and select water treatment equipment including pumps, blowers, mixers, valves, chemical dosing, and sludge handling systems.
  • Coordinate with Process, Civil, and EICA teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations, supplier engagement, and equipment package development.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Identify technical risks, resolve engineering challenges, and contribute to cost, quality, and programme objectives.
  • Ensure all designs and solutions comply with project requirements, client specifications, and industry standards.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the water or wastewater treatment sector.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment used within treatment facilities.
  • Experience producing engineering documentation, equipment specifications, and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment procurement and supplier engagement.
  • Experience supporting construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering projects under Design & Build or NEC contract environments.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Previous experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Understanding of target-cost project delivery models.
