Mechanical Engineer
Sector: Food Manufacturing / Industrial

Salary: Circa £51,000 per annum
Hours: 12-hour days & nights
iSQ Recruitment is partnered with a well-established and growing food manufacturer near Diss, Suffolk, who are investing heavily in their site and engineering operations. They are now looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their established engineering team and play a key role in keeping a busy, high-volume production site running safely and efficiently.
We’re interested in experienced mechanical engineers from a range of relevant backgrounds, including food manufacturing, FMCG, and agricultural environments.
If you’re a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys fault-finding, repairing machinery, and keeping production moving, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a stable business with ongoing investment and genuine opportunities to progress.
Please note: This role does not offer visa sponsorship. Due to the location, you will also need a full UK driving licence and your own vehicle.

Shift Pattern
You’ll work as part of a 4-team rotating shift pattern, providing engineering support across a busy production operation:
- 12-hour shifts: 8am–8pm / 8pm–8am
- 2 weeks on days, followed by 2 weeks on nights
- 3 Engineers per shift
- Additional electrical engineering support during the day
- Consistent rotation, giving you a clear and predictable shift pattern
Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for keeping production machinery and site infrastructure operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Your Role Will Include
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical breakdowns quickly and effectively
- Working on a wide range of production machinery, equipment, and site infrastructure
- Supporting improvements to machinery reliability, efficiency, and performance
- Carrying out mechanical fabrication and repair work where required
- Using workshop machinery including lathes and milling machines
- TIG welding and general mechanical engineering work
- Working with components including bearings, chains, sprockets, taper locks, and associated drive systems
- Identifying recurring faults and contributing to preventative solutions
- Completing maintenance records and reporting accurately
- Working closely with production and the wider engineering team to minimize downtime
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety, housekeeping, and compliance

About You
- Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong practical mechanical maintenance experience
- Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance
- TIG welding experience
- Experience using lathes and milling machines
- Good understanding of bearings, chains, sprockets, taper locks, and mechanical drive systems
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Experience working with production machinery, industrial equipment, or heavy plant
- Previous UK engineering experience is essential, with a good working knowledge of UK engineering practices, workplace safety requirements, and relevant health & safety standards
- Ability to work safely and effectively within UK manufacturing and engineering environments
- Food or meat processing experience would be advantageous
Qualifications gained outside the UK: We welcome applications from engineers who have gained their qualifications overseas. Where applicable, a UK ENIC qualification comparison or equivalent recognition would be preferred.
