The Role

As part of JFD's ongoing commitment to innovation and engineering excellence, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and through-life engineering of our globally recognised product range. Working across both new and existing products, you'll play a key role in delivering engineering solutions that meet customer requirements, enhance product performance, and support operational success across defence and commercial environments.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and deliver innovative engineering solutions for new products, while providing through-life support and enhancements across JFD's existing product portfolio.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Sales, Procurement, Production, and Project Management to develop practical, cost-effective technical solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
  • Source suitable materials and components, maintaining accurate engineering data, part numbers, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Produce and review high-quality engineering documentation, including manufacturing drawings, specifications, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification packages, technical reports, and customer proposals.
  • Ensure engineering activities are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Undertake visits to JFD sites, customer locations, and supplier facilities as required to support project delivery, product development, and technical investigations.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience, with proven experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including the ability to produce and validate engineering calculations.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to support efficient and cost-effective product development.
  • Ability to take designs from initial concept through to prototype manufacture, testing, validation, and final production release.
  • Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and production techniques.
  • Understanding of gas and fluid systems and their application within engineered products.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
