Job Description
The role will consist of supporting all aspects of valve engineering activities related to the HPC Project within the Joint Design Office (JDO).
The Valve Engineer is responsible for:
- Undertaking technical clarifications of valve related deliverables required for construction, with support of the Back Office teams who carried out the initial design studies (EPR-E, EDVANCE, CNEPE and valve suppliers).
- Gathering and reviewing input data, analysing and updating design assumptions, technical specifications, equipment data sheets and associated documentation.
- Reviewing valve design documentation and ensuring compliance with applicable project requirements, nuclear codes and standards.
- Performing and supporting valve engineering assessments, including:
- Functional and operational reviews.
- Assessment of operational requirements.
- Review of valve qualification and environmental requirements.
- Identification and implementation of appropriate design modifications.
- Managing and closing valve-related technical queries and open points.
- Assessing and providing technical responses to issues arising during manufacturing, testing, installation, commissioning activities.
- Reviewing and integrating valve related modifications requested by project stakeholders after JDO handover.
- Performing engineering assessments and hand calculations to evaluate the feasibility and impact of proposed modifications.
- Reviewing and checking technical documentation produced by suppliers and external engineering subcontractors.
- Proposing technical improvements and optimisation for valve designs and associated documentation.
- Working closely with system engineers, layout engineers, CAD designers and other disciplines to support valve integration within plant design.
- Leading technical meetings.
- Managing interfaces with multiple stakeholders.
- Providing technical expertise on valve operation, maintainability, reliability and nuclear safety requirements.
Coordination Responsibilities
The Valve Engineer will also be responsible for coordinating valve related activities within the JDO and acting as the entry point for valve queries originating from HPC site. In this capacity, the engineer will:

- Coordinate technical activities across all valve packages and systems.
- Ensure consistency of technical solutions between stakeholders.
- Monitor and support the resolution of valve related open points.
- Facilitate communication between design teams, suppliers, construction teams and the client.
- Support project delivery objectives by ensuring valve engineering activities are executed in line with project schedules and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related Engineering or Science discipline.
- Experience in valve engineering, including specification, design, procurement, qualification, manufacturing, installation, commissioning or maintenance of industrial valves.
- Experience working on complex engineering projects within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Energy, Oil & Gas, Defence, Process, or Power Generation.
- Good understanding of engineering documentation including technical specifications, equipment data sheets, calculations, testing documentation and supplier deliverables.
- Ability to assess technical issues, identify practical solutions and support their implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical documentation and present technical matters to a range of stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Knowledge of nuclear industry codes and standards.
- Experience with valve sizing, actuator sizing, valve qualification or performance assessments.
- Experience reviewing supplier documentation and managing technical interfaces with valve manufacturers.
- Knowledge of EPR design principles, the HPC Project and associated engineering methodologies.
- Understanding of nuclear safety requirements.
- Previous experience supporting construction, installation, commissioning or manufacturing activities.
- French language would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D design software and engineering document management tools.
- Experience working in an international and multicultural environment.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional technical activities and managing complex stakeholder interfaces.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands, challenge assumptions where appropriate, and understand the constraints and requirements of adjacent disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver commitments and meet project deadlines.
