Mechanical Engineering Manager | Space

A senior engineering leadership opportunity within the space sector, combining mechanical engineering, technical leadership and team development across complex, high-reliability hardware.

You’ll lead and develop the mechanical engineering team, while remaining technically engaged in the design, delivery and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical systems.

The Role Includes:

  • Lead and develop mechanical engineering teams, supporting technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Oversee work packages, engineering performance, technical risks and resource planning.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineering Leads and technical specialists to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Develop the mechanical engineering capability roadmap, including future skills and product development requirements.
  • Provide technical support on complex mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware issues when required.

  • Strong experience in spacecraft or another high-reliability engineering environment.
  • A solid mechanical engineering background, including mechanical design, stress-critical components, precision tolerancing, materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience working with complex electro-mechanical hardware and diagnosing issues across component interfaces and wider systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanisms and components such as bearings, actuators, transmissions and feedback devices.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with a genuine interest in developing others.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and delivery skills.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar, ANSYS and MATLAB would be advantageous.
