You will be working in the Building Services OU based in Walsall Manor Hospital. Here, we are responsible for supporting hospitals nationwide, ensuring clean, well-ventilated, and heated spaces that aid patient recovery. We help cut energy use, carbon emissions, and waste costs, drawing on global best practice from over 400 healthcare projects.

The Role

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Estates Officer who will be responsible for ensuring that general maintenance covering Preventative Planned Maintenance, breakdowns and minor installations are carried out in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner and that all work carried out complies with any legislation regulation or guidance, which may apply.

Responsibilities

As The Mechanical Estates Officer, You Will

  • Assist senior management in the effective management of the New Build and Retained Estate areas, ensuring all mechanical elements are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Support the Capital Project Team where required and contribute to the management of minor projects, upgrades and new developments as required;
  • Engage and supervise maintenance contracts and all works in connection with Mechanical Services.
  • Manage Contractors, ensuring that the team undertakes all Statutory and Mandatory, Good Practice and Reactive Maintenance within the key performance indicator targets.
  • Bring to the attention of senior management non-conformities or exceptions in a timely manner, identifying suitable mitigation measures and where appropriate identify issues for inclusion in the departmental risk register.
  • Undertake the role of Authorised Person for relevant mechanical disciplines including Boiler and Pressure Systems, Confined Spaces and Water Management.

Requirements

  • City and Guilds apprenticeship or equivalent course in Mechanical Engineering (desirable).
  • IOSH Managing Safely/ SMSTS (desirable).
  • Have experience of AP duties/responsibility.
  • Commercial management.
  • Supervisor/Management qualification (desirable).
  • Experience within the NHS or healthcare setting, due to the equipment and environment.
