HVAC Mechanical Estimator

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working)

Contract Type: Permanent

Sector: Mechanical Building Services

The Role

An established and growing Mechanical Building Services contractor is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanical Estimator to join its commercial team based in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HVAC Mechanical Estimator to work within a collaborative, family-run business delivering high-quality mechanical building services projects across the commercial, healthcare, education, residential, retail and industrial sectors. The company specialises in mechanical design, installation, fabrication and project management, operating nationwide from its Birmingham headquarters with in-house pipework and ductwork fabrication facilities. Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, suppliers and clients, the HVAC Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate tenders and cost plans for a wide range of mechanical building services projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed mechanical estimates and competitive tender submissions.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Complete material take-offs and labour calculations.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Produce accurate cost plans and pricing schedules.
  • Liaise with clients throughout the tender process.
  • Work closely with Contracts Managers to ensure smooth project handovers.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and tender documentation.
  • Support business growth by securing profitable work.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HVAC Mechanical Estimator or Mechanical Building Services Estimator.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services installations.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Commercial awareness and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
  • Relevant industry qualifications or extensive practical estimating experience.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
