Mechanical Estimator

Scotland | £55,000 - £75,000 + Excellent Benefits

Your new company

Due to a significant increase in secured workload across major defence, infrastructure and commercial projects, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join their pre-construction team. This established M&E contractor has an enviable reputation within the Scottish Building Services market and continues to secure high-profile projects across healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, residential and public sector environments. Following several major project wins and a strong pipeline of future work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support their continued growth.

Your new role

As Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of tenders and pre-construction activities across a diverse portfolio of projects throughout Scotland. Working closely with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal project teams, you will be responsible for producing accurate and commercially competitive mechanical estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing detailed mechanical estimates and tender submissions.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Carrying out take-offs and preparing accurate cost plans.
  • Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Identifying value engineering opportunities.
  • Assessing project risks and opportunities.
  • Attending tender review and client meetings.
  • Working closely with operational and commercial teams during handover.
  • Supporting business development activities by contributing to winning tender submissions.
  • Maintaining awareness of market trends, supply chain pricing and labour costs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
