About the Role

The purpose of the position of Mechanical Fire Systems Design Engineer is to carry out design, hydraulic calculations, design reviews, and technical proposals across the mechanical product range, maintain and enhance standards and compliance on all projects noting any changes that may impact technical and commercial aspects.

  • Work to project deadlines and attend client progress meetings.
  • Provide As Installed information including input in operation and maintenance data.
  • Work within the design team and provide support to other team members in all design activities in line with EA-RS Documentation, work in line with EA-RS policies, procedures, core values, and social values always.

Key Tasks

  • Produce Design Layouts, Schematics, and Block Plans and check for compliance to latest relevant codes of practice and standards:
    • BS EN 12845
    • VdS 4001en and associated documents
    • BS 8489
    • BS 9990
    • BS 5306
    • NFPA Design suite
    • FM Design suite
    • BS EN 15004
    • Manufacturers DIOM
    • FHC Packages
  • Knowledge and experience of all Fire Suppression Systems.
  • Good knowledge of software packages for Fire Suppression Systems design.
  • Able to produce detailed schedules of equipment including detailed information that will be used by the delivery/commissioning teams.
  • Understanding of Interfaces with other systems, Fire Alarm Cause & Effect Matrices.
  • Work on design packages AutoCAD, Revit & Navisworks.
  • BIM / Coordination – able to combine and produce a federated model for internal use - navigate through the model to detect clashes and must be confident in setting up views and driving the model.
  • Attendance at design coordination meetings and report back to BIM Technician to make required changes.
  • Looks for efficiencies – better ways of completing a task – this ensures speedy delivery.
  • Ensure designs are delivered on time and to budget set by Director.
  • Attend seminars online/in person to keep up to date with the industry standards to feed back any new knowledge to the company.
  • Manage and maintain project content – source any additional content.
  • Understand and ensure changes in procedures/standards are communicated to the team.

The ability to work accurately yet efficiently is key in the design of life safety systems due to the responsibility placed with us in our industry. It is important to be mindful of budgets and timeframes to maintain margins and ensure key submission dates are met. Ability to competently operate:

  • AutoCAD Design, Co-ordination and Checking.
  • Revit, Design, Co-ordination and Checking.
  • FHC Production and Results interpretations.
