Mechanical Fitter

Location: Durham, England, North East

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £43,000 per annum

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 08:00 until 16:30
  • Friday: 07:30 until 13:30

Benefits:

  • 23 days holidays per year plus Bank Holidays

About the Role

We're currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join an established and growing engineering business in Durham. The role will involve working on a varied range of equipment, from large multi-stage, high-pressure units through to smaller industrial pumps. The successful candidate will be responsible for the disassembly, inspection, repair and re-assembly of various rotating equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect and repair pumps and other rotating equipment
  • Re-assemble equipment to the required standards and specifications
  • Complete work within agreed deadlines and to a high standard
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports in line with company and customer requirements
  • Work in accordance with relevant industry standards and company procedures
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and equipment manuals
  • Identify equipment issues and assist with effective problem solving
  • Prioritise workloads to ensure agreed deadlines are achieved
  • Work as part of a small, skilled engineering team
  • Maintain a strong understanding of pumps and rotating equipment
  • Work flexibly and undertake overtime when required

The Ideal Candidate

  • Time-served Fitter/Engineer
  • Proven experience working with pumps and rotating equipment
  • Strong mechanical engineering background
  • Experience within a service, repair or workshop environment
  • Ability to accurately read technical drawings, schematics and manuals
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Flexible approach to tasks and working hours
  • Reliable, conscientious and committed to delivering high-quality work
