Salary: Up to £15.60 per hour - approximately £35,693 per annum based on 44 hours per week
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 44 hours per week - Monday to Thursday 07:00-16:30, Friday 07:00-15:30
An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a well-established specialist commercial vehicle manufacturing and bodybuilding business in Manchester.
This is a hands-on position involving vehicle body assembly, fabrication, fitting and electrical installation work. You'll be joining an experienced production team working on specialist commercial vehicles, with full product-specific training provided.
The Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will work from engineering drawings and job specifications to manufacture and install components on commercial vehicle bodies.
The position would suit someone with previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Vehicle Fitter, Coachbuilder, Assembly Fitter or Fabricator who is confident using hand tools and workshop equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and work accurately from engineering drawings and works orders
- Install insulated panels and components onto commercial vehicle bodies
- Carry out mechanical assembly and fitting work
- Electrically terminate lighting, switches and tail-lift components
- Cut metals, timber and plastics using appropriate hand tools and workshop equipment
- Use bench saws, measuring equipment and other production tools safely
- Seal vehicle body joints, floors and roofs using silicone and protective coatings
- Work independently to agreed production timescales and quality standards
- Maintain clean, safe and organised workshop areas
- Follow health and safety procedures and quality-control requirements
- Complete additional workshop and production duties when required

What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Vehicle Fitter, Coachbuilder or within a similar manufacturing environment
- Good practical mechanical and assembly skills
- Experience using hand tools, workshop machinery and measuring equipment
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Good understanding of manufacturing or production processes
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
- Reliable timekeeping and a professional approach to health and safety
- Reliable transport or the ability to travel to the Trafford Park site

Experience within commercial vehicle bodybuilding, coachbuilding, trailer manufacturing, vehicle conversions or specialist vehicle manufacturing would be particularly advantageous.
