Job Title: Mechanical Fitter
Reporting to: Site Supervisor
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Fitter will undertake the mechanical construction, maintenance, fitting, and removal of substation plant and equipment. This work will be undertaken in full compliance with the construction drawings, documents, and specifications in compliance with published guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure satisfactory completion of work.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
- Maintain and develop competence level and technical skills to ensure delivery to high standards.
- Attend training as required to maintain knowledge and application of systems and procedures.
- Deliver scheduled/unscheduled work to time and standard in accordance with RAMS and instructions.
- Maintain, update, and report variations on drawings, test sheets, marking up progress as works develop.
- Comply with all Omexom H&SE standards, Quality Standards, Operational Procedures, and Policies.
- Actively contribute to your team, sharing knowledge and experience, monitoring progress, and providing support for others.
- Promptly make safe where it’s safe to do so, record all accidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Lead by example with Safety Behaviour and Management. Encourage safe working, reporting of hazards, and innovations. Report any concerns regarding Quality, Safety, Health, or the Environment to CM or nominated representative.
- Use all machinery, equipment, substances, transport, and plant appropriately and in line with RAMS, manufacturer’s instructions, company guidance, and training.
- Communicate with Supervisors to ensure all materials and supplies are procured/provided to avoid delays and maintain efficient working.
- A commitment to working safely and embracing the Omexom Safety culture.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
It is preferable that the Mechanical Fitter will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working on UK National Grid and DNO substation/OHL sites operating from 11 – 400kV.
Qualification will be declared and managed by the OPS Training database.
- Basic reading, writing, and maths skills
- Persons/Competent Persons NG accreditation
- Good understanding of reading and understanding drawings and documents
- Have/maintain a level of training, experience & Qualifications for your role, as expected/outlined by Omexom

Competencies
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- The ability to take instructions to undertake tasks safely
- Have a basic understanding of major substation plant and equipment
- Understand and interpret RAMS, Drawings, ITP’s, and safety documents
- The ability to plan, check, and procure/request materials to maintain efficient working progress
- To proactively drive their development through the appraisal system (Check-In)
- Have basic computer/tablet literacy
