Mechanical Fitters & Advanced Fitters — Nationwide Substation & Power Infrastructure Projects

Location: Multiple UK Sites (including North Wales, Scottish Highlands, Orkney Islands, and Central Scotland)

Positions: Multiple Contract Roles Available

Rate Range: £29.12 – £41.15 per hour (LTD / Umbrella — dependent on location, distance tier, and shift rate)

Working Pattern: Standard 50-hour weeks (10 hours per day, Monday–Friday) with weekend overtime opportunities

Contract Status: Outside IR35

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting experienced Mechanical Fitters and Advanced Fitters for major electrical transmission and substation construction projects across the UK. Whether you live locally to site or are willing to travel (Outside 50 miles travel rates and elevated site spot rates apply), we have multiple long-term and short-term contract positions available immediately and starting over the coming months.

Key Qualifications & Certifications

We are looking for candidates holding a mix of the following core tickets and experience:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Apprentice-trained / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Valid CSCS card or CCNSG Safety Passport
  • Core Safety Tickets: Manual Handling, Working at Height, Fire Safety Awareness

Site-Specific Certifications & Plant Tickets (High Demand):

  • National Grid Person / BESC / SSE / SPEN Authorisations
  • CPCS Lift Supervisor
  • IPAF Roto Telehandler
  • Slinger / Signaller & Banksman
  • PASMA

Experience Required

  • Hands-on experience with GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) and AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear) equipment installation.
  • Substation or heavy industrial environment experience (Power Generation, Oil & Gas, or Utilities).
  • Experience carrying out earthing installation works on major infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to work safely under QEHS procedures within a site-managed team.

Rates & Pay Structure (Outside IR35)

Pay rates are structured based on distance tiers and site-specific location uplifts:

Standard Base Rates (Outside 50 Miles):

  • First 37 Hours: £29.12 / hr
  • Overtime (After 37 hrs / First 4 Sat hrs): £30.87 / hr
  • Weekend / Bank Holiday: £33.65 / hr

Enhanced Site Rates (With Location Spot Rate Uplifts):

  • Elevated pay rates ranging up to £41.15 / hr depending on site location (e.g., Orkney Islands, Scottish Highlands, North Wales).
