Mechanical Fitter – Permanent (Leek Area)

We’re recruiting a Mechanical Fitter to join our on‑site maintenance team at a manufacturing facility near Leek. This permanent role is focused on keeping production running efficiently through proactive maintenance, fast response to breakdowns, and high‑quality mechanical workmanship.

Role Requirements

  • Practical experience in mechanical fitting, maintenance, or repair.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with pumps, motors, valves, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, or similar plant equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical drawings or diagrams.
  • Confident using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Good understanding of safe working practices, permits, and lockout.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently within a small team.
  • Clear communication skills for reporting issues and working with supervisors and production staff.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the maintenance team to ensure manufacturing equipment runs smoothly.
  • Carry out routine mechanical maintenance across the site.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnose faults, and complete repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Strip, rebuild, and replace mechanical components when required.
  • Support planned maintenance schedules and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain pumps, motors, conveyors, valves, rotating machinery, and other production equipment.
  • Fabricate small brackets, guards, and fittings using workshop tools.
  • Keep accurate maintenance logs, defect reports, and job sheets.
  • Follow all site safety rules, permits, and risk assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with production teams to keep operations flowing.
