About the Role
The Mechanical Fitter will play a key role in our assembly teams, working on pumps for Original Equipment (OE) and aftermarket repairs. This Hands-on position covers every aspect of the assembly process—from product development to disassembly, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines while supporting continuous improvement initiatives to optimise workflows and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Disassembly:
- Construct, repair, and test new pumps for both OE and aftermarket orders, following precise work instructions and quality standards.
- Dismantle and reassemble service/repair pumps with the same attention to detail and efficiency.
- Ensure products meet economic manufacturing targets while maintaining high-quality standards.

Quality & Compliance:
- Self-inspect work to guarantee flawless assembly compliance.
- Complete all necessary documentation (checklists, logs, and paperwork).
- Assist the Operations Manager in resolving technical issues and implementing corrective actions.

Process & Documentation:
- Help develop, update, and revise assembly documentation, programs, and tooling.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance productivity and cost efficiency.

Special Projects & Flexibility:
- Travel to customer sites (national/international) to perform maintenance as required.
- Support test rigs (hydrostatic, performance, noise, and vibration testing) if needed, including setup and strip-downs.

Team & Safety Leadership:
- Train and support junior staff and apprentices in assembly best practices.
- Work with management to implement company policies and safety standards.
- Maintain excellence in health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Act as a knowledge resource for technical and operational matters within the department.
Essential Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Time-served Mechanical Fitter with up to 3 years’ experience, preferably in heavy manufacturing.
- Hands-on knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques (e.g. Just-in-Time, TPM, 5S).
- Strong team player with a problem-solving mindset, energy, and ability to embrace change.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to navigate or learn industrial engineering software (CAD, ERP, or process management tools is ideal but not always essential).

Physical & Working Requirements
Daily Physical Demands
- Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, and cordial conversation.
- Frequent computer/telephone use.
- Climbing, crouching, or crawling occasionally (spiral workspaces or maintenance areas).
- Lifting light to moderate weights during cleaning or equipment handling.
Working Environment
- Theft adaptation areas with exposure to:
- Moderate noise (e.g., machinery, tools).
- Extended air travel or road assignments (requiring occasional long-haul travel).
- Ability to work in misplan offices or test labs, with potential use of tools that require precision vision.
