Mechanical Lead for Major Data Centre Project in Groningen, Netherlands

Salter Grange is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Lead for a major data centre project in Groningen, Netherlands.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Mechanical Lead to take ownership of the mechanical delivery on a large-scale, technically complex project for a leading international construction contractor.

As Mechanical Lead, you will manage the day-to-day delivery of the Mechanical package, working closely with the Project Manager, engineering, commercial and construction teams to ensure the project is delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of the Mechanical package on site.
  • Oversee day-to-day mechanical site operations and subcontractor activities.
  • Drive high standards of Health & Safety and Quality across the Mechanical works.
  • Manage the Mechanical QA process, including documentation and project close-out.
  • Monitor project progress against the programme and manage labour and subcontractor resources.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager, engineering team, commercial team and client.
  • Hold regular meetings with subcontractors and monitor performance against programme and manpower requirements.
  • Manage snagging, punch lists and the successful completion of Mechanical works.
  • Produce weekly progress reports, highlighting project risks, delays and key concerns.
  • Monitor project costs, variations, labour, materials, plant and equipment.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to ensure variations and associated costs are captured correctly.
  • Manage change control and assess the impact of changes on both cost and programme.
  • Attend project, planning, coordination and client meetings.
  • Ensure all project documentation, including safety and subcontractor documentation, is maintained accurately.
  • Support the successful commissioning, handover and close-out of the Mechanical package.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Mechanical Lead, Mechanical Manager or Senior Mechanical Engineer on large-scale construction projects.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Construction.
  • Strong experience coordinating and managing Mechanical works on site.
  • A trade background and relevant third-level qualification.
  • Previous experience managing subcontractors, labour and project resources.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety, Quality and project delivery processes.
  • Experience managing project programmes, progress and Mechanical package delivery.
  • Good commercial awareness, including experience with variations and change management.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and project management software.
  • Previous data centre or mission-critical construction experience would be highly advantageous.
