Shift Mechanical Technician

Location: South Wales

The Opportunity

A leading industrial manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join its engineering team on a rotating shift pattern. This role is responsible for maintaining critical plant equipment, supporting operational performance, and ensuring manufacturing processes run safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, and breakdown repairs on mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults within complex manufacturing systems to minimise downtime.
  • Install, maintain and improve plant and equipment to agreed engineering standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and manufacturing performance targets.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with health, safety, environmental and legislative requirements.
  • Produce accurate maintenance reports and records using the site's maintenance management systems.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and change management processes relating to plant and equipment modifications.
  • Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel where required, ensuring work is completed safely and effectively.
  • Assist with training and knowledge sharing across engineering and operational teams.

Requirements

  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification gained through a recognised apprenticeship route.
  • Proven experience within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, processing, or production environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills on mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Experience supervising personnel and ensuring safe execution of maintenance activities.

Ideal Background

Candidates with experience maintaining complex industrial plant, machinery and mechanical systems within large-scale manufacturing environments will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.

Working Pattern

Continental shift pattern.

  • 12-hour shifts consisting of 2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off.
