I am currently recruiting on behalf of an industry-leading facilities management and engineering services provider for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their healthcare maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a critical healthcare environment, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of mechanical building services equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of essential hospital infrastructure that supports patient care and day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services systems.
- Diagnose and repair faults across a range of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Maintain HVAC systems, pumps, motors, valves, pipework, water systems, and associated plant.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations, company procedures, and healthcare standards.
- Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately using CAFM systems where required.
- Support the delivery of statutory compliance and site inspections.
- Assist with plant shutdowns, repairs, and minor project works.
- Liaise with engineers, subcontractors, and site management to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures and minimise disruption to critical healthcare services.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

Requirements
Essential

- Recognised mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Experience carrying out mechanical maintenance within commercial, industrial, or critical environments.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and general building services maintenance.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
Desirable
- Previous experience within a healthcare or NHS environment.
- Knowledge of HTM guidance and healthcare compliance standards.
- Experience with BMS-controlled mechanical systems.
- Water hygiene or legionella management experience.
- Familiarity with CAFM systems and digital maintenance records.
