About the Role
At Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), we're looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join our multi-disciplinary maintenance team at Hunterston A. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining critical plant and infrastructure as part of a site with a long-term mission of safe decommissioning and environmental restoration. If you're an experienced mechanical fitter who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership, and working in a safety-first environment, you'll find both challenge and reward in this role.
What Will You Be Doing
As part of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for ensuring mechanical assets across the site remain safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. From preventative maintenance and inspections to repairs, installations, and fault finding, you'll work on a diverse range of equipment including motors, gearboxes, valves, ventilation systems, and facilities infrastructure. Your expertise will help ensure maintenance activities are completed efficiently while supporting operational and environmental objectives.
- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance activities on a variety of mechanical plant and equipment.
- Lead and support mechanical maintenance tasks, fault diagnosis, and repair activities.
- Ensure all work is completed safely through the use of risk assessments, permits, and approved procedures.
- Support installations, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
You'll take an active role in leading and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring work is carried out to the highest safety standards. Working from engineering drawings, maintenance instructions, and risk assessments, you'll identify faults, implement effective solutions, and support continuous site performance. This role offers real variety, with opportunities to work across industrial and commercial environments, including occasional work at height and within controlled areas where specialist protective equipment is required.

Who Are We Looking For
We're seeking a motivated and safety-conscious mechanical professional who enjoys both hands-on technical work and collaborating as part of a high-performing team. You'll bring a positive, can-do attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting colleagues to achieve shared goals.
To be successful, you'll be a time-served Mechanical Fitter qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) with proven industrial mechanical maintenance experience. You'll have a strong understanding of health and safety practices, permit-to-work systems, and working within highly regulated environments. Experience leading maintenance activities and diagnosing mechanical faults will be important, along with the ability to follow technical instructions accurately and consistently.
- Time-served Mechanical Fitter qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
- Proven industrial mechanical maintenance experience and strong fault-finding capability.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements, permits to work, and safe systems of work.
- A proactive team player with a positive attitude and commitment to achieving high standards.
Whilst not essential, experience gained in multi-skilled maintenance environments, the nuclear industry, or other heavy industrial settings would be highly advantageous. The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings would also be beneficial. Please note: This role operates on a four-day working week, with contractual hours of 07:30 to 17:15, Monday to Thursday, offering an excellent work-life balance while contributing to meaningful and rewarding work.
