Mechanical Process Engineer
Join an innovative climate technology company developing a new generation of sustainable tiles designed to significantly reduce the energy use and carbon emissions associated with traditional ceramic tile manufacturing.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on Process Engineer to join a growing technical team and help take a proven sustainable tile technology from small-scale production into pilot and larger-scale manufacturing. You'll work closely with the founding team and materials scientists across process development, scale-up, equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and wider manufacturing activities.
The role would suit someone who enjoys practical engineering, likes solving problems, and wants to take ownership of a manufacturing process within a fast-moving startup environment.
Key Responsibilities – Mechanical Process Engineer
- Develop, optimise, and scale existing manufacturing processes from small-batch towards pilot-scale production
- Support the development of reliable, repeatable, and efficient production processes
- Identify, investigate, and troubleshoot process and equipment issues
- Support the selection, specification, installation, and commissioning of new production equipment
- Work closely with contractors, equipment suppliers, and external technical partners
- Plan and run production trials, experiments, and process optimization activities
- Monitor process performance and use data to identify opportunities for improvement
- Support the development and implementation of procedures, processes, and technical documentation
- Work closely with materials scientists to translate material development into practical manufacturing processes
- Take ownership of engineering projects and contribute across the wider business as priorities evolve

Key Skills & Experience – Mechanical Process Engineer
- Practical process engineering experience gained within a manufacturing, pilot plant, R&D, or similar technical environment
- Experience scaling a process, product, or technology from laboratory, prototype, or small-scale production towards larger-scale manufacturing
- Comfortable working hands-on with production equipment, machinery, and technical systems
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across both process and equipment challenges
- Some mechanical engineering or mechanical systems experience
- Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, or bringing new machinery into operation
- Able to work independently and take ownership of projects from initial scope through to implementation
- Comfortable working across a broad range of responsibilities within a small startup environment
- Strong communication and project management skills, with the confidence to work with contractors and suppliers
- Genuine interest in sustainability, new technology, and working within a developing clean-tech business

Experience within ceramics, tiles, process manufacturing, food technology, pharmaceutical processing, formulation, or other relevant manufacturing environments would be advantageous.
