Mechanical Project Design Engineer

Location: Camberley, Surrey

Commutable from: Camberley, Farnborough, Aldershot, Guildford, Woking, Bracknell, Basingstoke, Reading, Fleet, Ascot and surrounding areas

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + Benefits

Mechanical Project Design Engineer | Aerospace & Defence | Surrey | £50,000 - £55,000

A Engineering Specialist for the Aerospace, Defence and Advanced Engineering sectors is seeking a Mechanical Project Design Engineer to join its expanding engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer or Mechanical Systems Engineer looking to take ownership of complex engineering projects throughout the full project lifecycle.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will be involved in the design, development and delivery of bespoke mechanical systems and engineered equipment, supporting projects from concept and detailed design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Unlike many traditional Mechanical Design Engineer positions, this role offers genuine exposure to project delivery, customer interaction, supplier engagement and site-based engineering activities.

The Mechanical Project Design Engineer Role

As a Mechanical Project Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering technically challenging projects for customers operating within highly regulated engineering sectors.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Mechanical system design and development
  • 3D CAD modelling and detailed engineering drawings
  • Pressure systems, piping and fluid handling equipment
  • Structural and fabricated assemblies
  • Engineering calculations and FEA activities
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Customer and supplier engagement
  • Technical problem solving and project support
  • Site surveys, installation and commissioning activities
  • Technical documentation and engineering reporting

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Strong 3D CAD experience using Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo or similar
  • Experience designing complex mechanical systems or engineered equipment
  • Knowledge of pressure systems, piping, structures or industrial equipment
  • Experience supporting projects through the full engineering lifecycle
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Practical and solutions-focused engineering mindset
