Mechanical Project Engineer - Contract, Outside IR35, 6 months
Location: Chepstow
Rate: Dependent on experience
Yolk Recruitment is supporting a well-established manufacturing business with the recruitment of a Contract Mechanical Project Engineer to support a significant programme of site investment.
This is a 6-month contract, working alongside an experienced Project Manager to deliver a range of CapEx and engineering projects across a busy operational manufacturing site. There is a substantial programme of investment underway, with projects at different stages and an immediate need for someone experienced enough to get up to speed quickly and take ownership.
The site combines long-established plant and machinery with significant ongoing investment in replacement and upgraded equipment, so this will suit someone comfortable delivering projects in a live, brownfield manufacturing environment rather than working purely on new-build projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
