Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + Benefits
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Company

Hays Engineering are exclusively supporting a well-established and growing engineering business operating within the manufacturing and special-purpose machinery sector. Due to continued project wins and expansion, our client is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join their engineering team and support the successful delivery of bespoke engineering projects from concept through to completion. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to take ownership of projects while developing their technical and commercial skills within a fast-paced engineering environment.

The Role

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing engineering projects throughout the full project life cycle. Working closely with design, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. You will act as a key point of contact for stakeholders, coordinating technical activities and ensuring smooth project execution from initial customer requirements through to final installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously from order receipt through to completion.
  • Coordinate project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
  • Liaise with customers to understand requirements and provide regular project updates.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Design Engineers to ensure technical solutions meet customer specifications.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Monitor project costs and support commercial decision-making.
  • Manage supplier relationships and oversee subcontractor activities where required.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant quality, safety, and industry standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience in a Project Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer, Design Engineer, or similar engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
