Mechanical Project Engineer – Australia

Locations: Perth & Sydney, Australia

Salary: AUD $150,000 – $250,000 depending on experience

Package: Relocation assistance available

The Opportunity

We are recruiting experienced Mechanical Project Engineers for major construction and building services projects in Perth and Sydney, Australia.

These opportunities are particularly suited to experienced professionals currently working within the UK, Ireland and European construction markets who are interested in relocating to Australia for a long-term career opportunity.

Successful candidates will provide mechanical engineering support across a number of projects, working closely with project managers, design teams, estimators, contractors, and other key stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle. Depending on experience and seniority, salaries will range from approximately AUD $150,000 to $250,000, with relocation expenses available for successful candidates moving to Australia.

The Role

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will support the successful design and delivery of mechanical building services packages across medium to large-scale construction projects. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and design development through construction, commissioning, and completion, providing both technical and project delivery support.

The role will involve a combination of design review, engineering calculations, technical coordination, cost management, project scheduling, and site-based responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical engineering support across all project phases, from initial concept through to commissioning and completion.
  • Undertake design checks and technical reviews on projects secured through the tender market.
  • Provide technical assistance to estimating teams and Project Managers as required.
  • Prepare external static pressure calculations for water pumps, ventilation systems, and air handling unit fans.
  • Undertake the sizing of ductwork and pipework for air-conditioning and mechanical services systems.
  • Assist with project budgeting, cost monitoring, and commercial management.
  • Prepare and review technical schedules and project documentation.
  • Develop specifications for mechanical materials, equipment, plant layouts, and systems.
  • Assist with project planning and scheduling activities.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, installation documentation, and relevant engineering standards.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure installations are being completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Identify and assist in resolving technical and engineering issues throughout project delivery.
  • Attend design, coordination, and construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, construction teams, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to support successful project delivery.
  • Assist with commissioning activities and the successful completion and handover of mechanical systems.

Experience & Qualifications

We are interested in speaking with Mechanical Project Engineers with experience in the construction, building services, HVAC, or mechanical engineering sectors.

The successful candidate should ideally have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years' experience within the construction or building services industry.
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of mechanical building services.
  • Experience working with HVAC, ventilation, air-conditioning, ductwork, pipework, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Strong ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, installation documentation, and engineering standards.
  • Experience undertaking mechanical engineering calculations and technical design reviews.
  • Good understanding of project budgets, cost management, and project scheduling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, designers, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

Previous Australian construction experience is not essential where candidates can demonstrate relevant mechanical engineering and project delivery experience within comparable construction markets.
