Hays Civil Engineering are delighted to be working with a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering major water infrastructure projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and a significant programme of capital investment, we are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of a major clean water treatment scheme. Relevant experience in water treatment, wastewater, process engineering, pumping systems, pipework, MEICA installations or industrial process environments would be highly advantageous.
The Role
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in managing and coordinating mechanical installations from design through to commissioning. Working closely with site teams, subcontractors, designers and stakeholders, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate mechanical installation activities on site.
- Review and support design development, buildability and value engineering opportunities.
- Liaise with designers, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure technical compliance.
- Oversee procurement of mechanical equipment and materials.
- Monitor project progress, programme, costs and risks.
- Ensure works are delivered in line with health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Manage technical queries, change control and quality documentation.
- Support testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Produce and review RAMS, ITPs and project documentation where required.
- Contribute to project reporting and stakeholder meetings.
About You
- Degree, HND or HNC qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working as a Mechanical Project Engineer, Project Engineer or similar role.
- Previous experience within the water, utilities, process or energy sectors.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installations including pumps, pipework, valves and process equipment.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts would be beneficial.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
