Mechanical Project Manager / Mechanical Site Manager
Location: Islington, Central London
Salary: £70,000 to £80,000, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent or freelance options available
Hays Construction is working with a leading specialist contractor to recruit a Mechanical Project Manager or experienced Mechanical Site Manager for a major project near Islington, Central London.
The overall scheme is valued at more than £13 million, with the mechanical package worth approximately £6 million to £7 million. Working alongside the Project Director and Project Manager, this role will take responsibility for the mechanical delivery of the project, from installation through to commissioning and handover. The position would suit an established Mechanical Project Manager or a delivery-focused Mechanical Site Manager with experience managing significant mechanical packages on technically demanding construction projects.
The Role
As Mechanical Project Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of the mechanical services package.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Managing the mechanical works through construction, commissioning, and handover
- Coordinating mechanical subcontractors, supervisors, and site teams
- Monitoring progress against the construction and commissioning programmes
- Reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical information
- Coordinating mechanical services with the wider construction and building services teams
- Chairing subcontractor progress meetings and maintaining accurate records
- Managing labour, materials, plant, and site resources
- Identifying programme risks, technical issues, and potential delays
- Working closely with the Project Director, Project Manager, and commercial team
- Supporting mechanical procurement and monitoring package costs
- Managing quality inspections, installation records, and ITPs
- Ensuring the mechanical works are delivered safely and to the required standard
- Overseeing testing, commissioning, snagging, and final handover
- Providing progress updates to the client and wider project team
- Resolving site and technical issues without affecting programme, quality, or safety

About You
You will have previous experience working as a Mechanical Project Manager, Mechanical Site Manager, or in a similar mechanical delivery role within the construction or building services industry.
You should be able to demonstrate:

- Experience delivering significant mechanical packages on commercial, laboratory, life sciences, or technically complex projects
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services, including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and pipework systems
- Experience managing mechanical subcontractors and site-based delivery teams
- A good understanding of mechanical installation, coordination, testing, and commissioning
- The ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and construction programmes
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A practical, delivery-focused approach to resolving project issues
- Good knowledge of health and safety requirements
- SMSTS and an appropriate CSCS card
