Bright Orange Consultants is a building services design consultancy providing mechanical, electrical, and public health design services across commercial, retail, education, and residential sectors. With over 40 years of experience, the consultancy delivers projects ranging from condition surveys to large-scale residential developments up to £180 million. Bright Orange Consultants operates as a specialist, agile consultancy, focusing on energy and carbon reduction, innovative design solutions, and close coordination with clients, architects, and statutory authorities. Core services include mechanical and electrical systems design, utility and infrastructure coordination, lighting schemes, and full project support from RIBA Stages 1–6, including planning assistance and spatial planning for building services plant.

Role Description

The Mechanical & Public Health Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and coordinating building services systems, including mechanical heating and cooling, ventilation, water services, lighting, power, and related controls for projects in the commercial, retail, education, and residential sectors.   • Developing system concepts and layouts
  • Producing Revit and CAD drawings and technical specifications
  • Performing calculations and design checks
  • Collaborating with clients, architects, and statutory authorities to integrate services into overall building designs

The role involves supporting projects at various RIBA stages, contributing to planning reports and drawings, and helping to optimize energy performance and carbon reduction strategies. This is a contract role. It is a hybrid position based either London or Rye, East Sussex, and some work from home.

  • Strong Mechanical Engineering knowledge, with experience in building services and system design.
  • Proficiency in designing straight into Revit and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for producing drawings, layouts, and model coordination.
  • Experience in Maintenance and Inspection of mechanical building services installations.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of HVAC, hot and cold water systems, ASHP, BMS controls, and above ground drainage.
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations, standards, and RIBA project stages, including planning processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team, manage own workload, and communicate clearly with clients and project stakeholders.
