Description
Join Bath Spa University's Estates team and help maintain the mechanical infrastructure that supports our academic, residential and historic campuses.
This hands-on role offers a varied workload across HVAC, heating, cooling and water systems, ensuring our buildings remain safe, comfortable and operational for students, staff and visitors.
About the Role
Deliver planned preventative, reactive and corrective maintenance across the University's mechanical services infrastructure.
- Maintain, fault find and repair HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, heat pumps, chillers and hot and cold-water systems.
- Coordinate boiler servicing and gas safety inspections, ensuring compliance with current regulations.
- Support the operation and optimisation of biomass boilers, energy centres and district heating systems.
- Supervise specialist contractors working on mechanical systems across the estate.
- Coordinate water hygiene testing and compliance activities in line with L8 requirements.
- Procure spare parts and contribute to effective stock management.
- Share technical expertise and support the development of colleagues.
- Undertake minor plumbing and general building maintenance tasks where required.
- Maintain plant rooms and service areas in a safe, clean and operational condition.
- Liaise with building users and stakeholders to communicate maintenance activities and minimise disruption.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with health, safety and compliance requirements.

About You
- Recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, HVAC or Commercial Gas Services.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical building services systems.
- Experience working within a maintenance or facilities management environment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to agreed timescales.
- Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate maintenance records.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Positive, proactive and solution-focused approach.
- Experience of BMS, district heating networks, biomass systems or educational estates would be advantageous.
Additional Information
Salary Grade 6 - Starting from £33,951 rising to £37,694 per annum
The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

- Ability to work across all Bath Spa University campuses.
- Occasional travel may be required for training and business purposes.
- Flexibility to work additional paid hours where operational requirements demand.
