Role Description
The Mechanical Shift Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Dagenham, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems within the data center. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical plant and equipment such as HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, and associated infrastructure to ensure continuous uptime.
- Performing scheduled and reactive maintenance.
- Conducting inspections.
- Documenting work in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

The role involves working as part of a shift team to:
- Respond to incidents.
- Support planned upgrades.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Communicate clearly with operations and management.
The position requires adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures, as well as participation in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and performance.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Mechanical Engineering and Maintenance skills relevant to data center or industrial environments.
- Candidates should possess Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills to interpret drawings and support modifications to mechanical systems.
- Candidates should possess Inspection skills for assessing mechanical equipment condition, safety compliance, and performance.
- Candidates should possess Automotive-related mechanical skills where applicable to plant support equipment and auxiliary systems.
- Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent) is beneficial.
- Experience in mission-critical facilities such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial plants is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures is desirable.
- Effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work shifts and respond calmly under pressure are important.
