Mechanical Supervisors — Substation & Power Infrastructure Projects
Location: Multiple UK Sites — Immediate Live Roles in Scottish Highlands & East of England
Positions: Contract Roles Available
Rate Range: £39.00 – £52.56 per hour (LTD / Umbrella — dependent on-site location uplift, distance tier, and shift rate)
Working Pattern: Standard 50-hour weeks (10 hours per day, Monday–Friday) with weekend overtime opportunities
Contract Status: Outside IR35
The Opportunity
DCS Engineering is recruiting experienced Mechanical Supervisors to lead and coordinate site teams across major high-voltage transmission, substation, and power infrastructure projects across the UK.
IMMEDIATE LIVE REQUIREMENTS:
- Scottish Highlands Region: 2x Mechanical Supervisors needed with a strong Civils / Subcontractor Supervision background or General Foreman experience (~6-month contracts).
- East of England Region: 1x Primary Mechanical Supervisor needed with proven Substation or Converter Station experience (~9.5-month contract).

We are also hiring for upcoming major infrastructure projects starting across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead small teams and work fronts on behalf of the Site Manager.
- Ensure site works are executed to Time, Quality, and QEHS standards.
- Forward-plan upcoming work fronts to ensure required engineering information, plant, materials, and labour are in place.
- Capture and record any site delays or scope disruptions.
- Monitor and enforce site safety, environmental, and quality compliance.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Background & Qualifications:
- Education / Experience: Apprentice-trained / NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (with 1+ yrs supervisor exp) OR industry-recognised training (with 2+ yrs exp on ESI, Substation, Power Gen, or Oil & Gas sites).
- Civils / General Foreman background highly desirable for Highland projects.
Core Safety & Management Certifications:
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- CSCS Card / CCNSG Safety Passport
- 3-Day First Aid
- Temporary Works Supervisor
- HSG 47 (Avoiding Danger from Underground Services)
- Plant Tickets: IPAF, MEWP, Roto 360
- Core HSE: Manual Handling, Working at Height, Fire Safety Awareness

High-Demand Client / Network Authorisations:
- SSE Authorisation Cat 3, Scottish Power, or National Grid Person (BESC)
- National Grid Competent Person (NSI6 / NSI8)
Rates & Pay Structure (Outside IR35)
Pay rates are structured based on distance tiers and site-specific location uplifts:

Standard Base Rates (Outside 50 Miles):
- First 37 Hours: £39.00 / hr
- Overtime (After 37 hrs / First 4 Sat hrs): £41.34 / hr
- Weekend / Bank Holiday: £45.06 / hr

Enhanced Site Rates (With Location Spot Rate Uplifts):
- Elevated pay rates scaling up to £52.56 / hr on select sites with spot uplifts.
