Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the delivery of complex mechanical design activities within a highly innovative engineering environment. You will provide technical direction, support project delivery, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with design and development activities.
Location: Glasgow or Reading
On-site Requirement: On Site
Seniority: 10+ Years Experience
Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design activities across the full product lifecycle.
- Oversee design reviews and technical governance activities.
- Produce and review complex 3D CAD models and assemblies.
- Support engineering calculations, analysis, and design justification.
- Coordinate activities with electronics, systems, and manufacturing teams.
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Proven experience leading mechanical design activities throughout the full product development lifecycle.
- Strong capability in producing and reviewing complex 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
- Experience conducting engineering calculations, design assessments, and technical justification activities.
- Ability to manage design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering processes and standards.
- Experience working closely with systems, electronics, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Soft Skills & Collaboration
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to support and develop engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to balance technical delivery, programme objectives, and resource priorities.
- Collaborative and proactive approach to solving engineering challenges.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.
Desirable Skills
- Experience delivering defence, aerospace, or other safety-critical engineering programmes.
- Knowledge of electronics packaging, enclosure design, or electromechanical integration.
- Experience using simulation tools to support mechanical design activities.
- Familiarity with configuration-controlled development and engineering change processes.
