About The Role
The Mechanical Technician will join the Maintenance team at the Beckton STW, ensuring all site equipment remains safe and operates efficiently through proactive and reactive maintenance. This full-time, permanent role offers a salary up to £39,000 per annum, dependent on experience. Responsibilities include investigating plant failures, diagnosing complex faults, and performing swift repairs to prevent process interruptions. The role supports the organisation’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and building a greener future. Candidates should possess strong mechanical diagnostic skills and a background in industrial maintenance. The position is based in Beckton, working as part of a dedicated team focused on operational reliability.
About The Role
We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Beckton STW.
As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is safe to use and running efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods to assist in keeping such a site running.

What You’ll Be Doing As The Mechanical Technician
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
- Provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
- Complete statutory checks as required.
- Work safely and comply with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base Location – Beckton STW – IG11 0AD
Working Pattern:
- 38 hours per week Monday-Friday. 7:30 am - 3:36 pm
- Plus standby & overtime opportunity, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.
Equipment:
- All PPE, tools, use of company van and a fuel card are provided.
What You Should Bring To The Role
- ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering is crucial.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
- Physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with the successful completion of the appropriate training.
- A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as the vehicle and tools, is provided.

- Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

- 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 days with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
- Contributory pension – Defined Contribution - Maximum of 12% - 2x employee contribution.
